What is SOMA Breath®?

SOMA Breath combines the ancient Yogic wisdom of Pranayama with modern-day science to create a multi-sensory experience designed to help you improve your health and fitness, heal physically and emotionally, enter deep states of meditation, and to act as a powerful tool in manifestation and spiritual practices.

SOMA Breath is a global movement with an international tribe of thousands of like-minded individuals dedicated to improving their health, their quality of life, and raising their Level Of Vibrational Energy (L.O.V.E.) so that they can live the life they always wanted.

Founded by Niraj Naik in 2012 after he cured himself of ulcerative colitis, a degenerative disease, using breathing techniques and positive visualisations.

Niraj is the inventor of the popular brainwave entertainment technology, Trypnaural Meditation, and is the founder of the Breathe in Beats music collective – a group of musicians who co-create the magical sounds behind SOMA Breath and Ecstatica.

The deeply meditative effects of SOMA breath can induce Alpha and Gamma brainwave states which allow us to literally re-write our subconscious beliefs.

By harnessing the power of our breath with certain techniques, we open an opportunity for the intelligent systems within our body designed for self-healing.

Unlike other breathwork modalities, SOMA Breath® specifically focuses on scientifically proven Pranayama breathing techniques  combined with brainwave music technology and guided imagery to deliver exciting and easy-to-follow healing experiences.

In essence, SOMA Breath® is the science of respiration — when you learn to breathe correctly, you can return to your natural state of health.

Breathwork and holding your breath is the key to your physical, emotional, energetic, and spiritual well-being. It’s the key to your creativity, your intuition, living in flow state, living authentically, and living in pure joy.

Benefits of SOMA Breath®

Increases mindfulness

SOMA Breath® fosters mindfulness, aiding in emotional regulation, stress management, and improved sleep through mindful conscious breathing techniques.

Produces Nitric Oxide

SOMA Breath® stimulates the production of nitric oxide, a brain chemical that boosts focused intensity, acts as an antioxidant, and has antiviral properties, contributing to overall well-being.

Optimises energy production

By regulating breathing, SOMA Breath® ensures efficient oxygen delivery and energy use, preventing diseases linked to over-breathing and enhancing tissue oxygenation.

Improves digestion

Correct breathing techniques with SOMA Breath® counteract the adverse effects of hyperventilation on digestion, promoting better blood flow to digestive glands, and leading to improved longevity, productivity, and stress alleviation.

Improves Co2 tolerance

The practice increases CO2 tolerance, which dilates blood vessels and relaxes muscles, leading to enhanced focus, attention, and a calmer, more relaxed state.

Lowers Stress

SOMA Breath® techniques shift your body from stress-induced 'fight or flight' to a relaxed 'rest and digest' state. This controlled breathing not only eases immediate stress but also builds long-term resilience and clarity, aiding in effective stress management.

How is SOMA Breath® different from other breathing techniques

SOMA Breath® revolves around manipulating CO2 in your body to train you to breathe correctly.  And unlike other breathing techniques, it utilises rhythmic music where the breath is timed to the rhythm of the beat.

Niraj explains that when you breathe in rhythm, that’s where the magic happens — because rhythmic music and breath combined create a state called “heart coherence.” It’s the state of harmony and balance in your inner world.

It isn’t just a one-size-fits-all breathwork technique. It utilises the ancient wisdom of Pranayama, which is like a pharmacy of breathing techniques customised to you and your needs. Combined with the powerful SOMA Breath® meditation, they turn on bliss on command, making you content and balanced from within, so you no longer need external things to be happy.

As a result, you have better relationships in your outer world.

An easy example - Breathing 2:4 - or extended exhalation

This technique stimulates your vagus nerve and activates the parasympathetic nervous system, calming you instantly. It also utilises humming to further activate  the parasympathetic nervous system - your rest and digest mode.

How to do it:

  • Sit comfortably in an upright position with your back straight.  Or lie down with your arms by your side.

  • Take a deep inhale through your nose, and as you exhale, make a humming sound and hold a single note for a long time.

  • Bring your awareness to the buzzing between your eyes, the location of your third eye to enhance the stimulation of your vagus nerve - thus further boosting the calming effect.
